Ormea is surrounded by the Ligurian Alps, which in this area take on the typical Dolomite aspect.
The city, whose name is the anagram of the word amore and with the typical heart-shaped historic center, is considered a mountain town as it is located at about 800 meters above sea level, which however has the peculiarity of being at just 40 km from the sea: that is, in just over half an hour you can reach the Ligurian sea and enjoy a splendid swim in one of the many blue flag beaches of Liguria!
Il Marguareis – Mongioie massif has a rich covering of limestone rocks, giving rise to the interesting phenomenon of karst much appreciated by speleologists. The presence of rock cliffs and many open sectors allows the practice of sport climbing.
The signaled presence of long mountain rings and valley trails offers many opportunities for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. On the surrounding heights there are some take-offs, starting points for hang gliding and paragliding. Fishing is widely practiced in the numerous mountain streams and the crystal clear waters of the Tanaro River, which arises here from the confluence with the Tanarello and the Negrone.
Trekking, Tibetan bridge and cave excursion!
This excursion is carried out by moving to the nearby hamlet of Viozene where, through a pleasant path in the woods, in about 45 minutes you will reach the resurgence of the Tanaro Veins. Here you cross the suspended bridge and reach, after a short ascent, the entrance to the “Grotta delle Vene” (“Cave of the Veins.”)
Wearing a helmet and headlamp, you enter and explore these fossil tunnels, created by water over the millennia: a unique experience, absorbed by another dimension. Coming back, you cannot miss the Rifugio Mongioie for lunch, a good snack or simply to admire one of the most beautiful corners of the Ligurian Alps.
The price includes the service of a mountain guide, the rental of technical equipment and the professional liability insurance.
Wearing wetsuit, helmet and harness, you can venture along handsome canyons carved by water in the folds of the Ligurian Alps, with dives, slides and abseils. A mix of adventure, play and sport, ideal for children, families or groups.

Going up the Val Tanaro from Ceva to Ponte di Nava and beyond to Upega, we cannot help but notice the many rocky walls scattered along its sides. On some of these structures, at the hands of the many passionate local climbers, small and large cliffs were born, often suitable for taking the first steps on the rock.
On these cliffs we will be able to rediscover the instinctive gesture of climbing, set the foundations of movements and learn the fundamental safety techniques, experiencing the thrill of a vertical experience.
